Photographed at the Nebraska migration site, March 2013. 80% of the world's population of sandhill cranes descend on the Platte River near Kearny, NE. Extreme arctic temperatures, blinding snow and nasty wind didn't dampen the fun of seeing these birds, which have a 4' wingspan and are 3' tall. Approximately 500,000 were in the migration, as well as snow geese and other birds.
